Luton Airport drug smuggler jailed
18.10.08
A Canadian woman who tried to smuggle 7.5kg of heroin through Luton Airport has been jailed for eight years. The drugs, which had an estimated street value of £367,000, were found concealed in Amina Mahmood's two suitcases and had also been sewn into the lining of her rucksack.
On Thursday Ms Mahmood, 54, of Ville St Laurent, Quebec, received the sentence at Birmingham Crown Court after she pleaded guilty last month to charges of importing drugs. The haul was discovered by customs officers when she arrived at Luton on May 16 this year on a flight from Istanbul.
