Luton Airport top for growth

Luton Airport is the number one UK airport for passenger growth, according to new figures from the CAA. It had the largest increase in passenger numbers of any UK airport in the period January - September, with an additional 487,311 passing through the airport, 6.5% up on the previous year.
The increase is greater than the total population of Bedfordshire, the county within which Luton Airport resides, or the population of Malta. The growth has been fuelled by the launch of a number of new routes to Cyprus, Italy, Poland and Jersey as well as airlines adding frequency to existing destinations.
Glyn Jones, the airport's Managing Director, said: ‘We have achieved this due to our excellent transport links to London, the South East and the Midlands as well as having one of the best catchment areas in the UK. This has been an encouraging year for us and shows just how attractive Luton Airport now is to airlines and travellers alike.’
