New short haul premium airline for Manchester Luton Airport

A new specialist business class airline plans to whizz flyers to Spain and Algarve from Manchester and Luton Airport. The new airline called Premjet, which dubs itself ‘the future of premium European air travel’, promises to get ahead of the crowd in transporting people to sunnier climes with a bit more comfort than they are used to with the usual short haul flight.
Similar to Luton based long haul all business class airline Silverjet, Premjet will take planes designed for 179 passengers and re-fitted to carry only 80 luxury seats. There will also be a separate bar area so flyers can get a drink and stretch their legs. And as with Silverjet, the fare is expected to be highly competitive too.
Premjet's Andy Mitchell said the company was planning to operate out of two bases - Manchester and Luton. He said: ‘It makes perfect sense to have a base in the South East and Luton came out as the best place and best priced airport amongst London airports.’
‘I think it's a unique business because although there are several transatlantic services, there is nobody doing this in Europe and it's our intention to be the first. I believe that from everything that we've found out there's definitely a demand for this.’
Premjet, which has an office in Croydon, has yet to publicly announce its intentions and is still in the development stage seeking funding. But if all goes to plan it will start jetting people to the Iberian Peninsula in Spring 2009.
