War protestor is Luton Airport baggage handler

A Muslim protester who shouted abuse at a homecoming parade for soldiers returning from Iraq works at Luton Airport, a baggage handling company has confirmed. Jalal Ahmed was one of a group of protesters who held placards branding the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment ‘butchers of Basra’ and ‘Cowards, Killers, Extremists’ as they marched through Luton on Tuesday.
Baggage handling company Menzies Aviation confirmed Mr Ahmed, who was pictured holding one of the placards, works at Luton Airport as a baggage handler. Spokesman John Geddes said: ‘We can confirm that Jalal Ahmed is a contracted employee of Menzies Aviation. He is not a full-time employee and has a zero hours contract.'
‘All employees are subject to a five-year criminal record check and airport authority checks before they can be given an airside pass to work on the airport. Jalal Ahmed passed these checks. We are carrying out a full internal investigation and until such times as this is complete we have rescinded Jalal Ahmed's airport pass and he will not be offered any work with us.’
Tuesday's protest led to fury from families of soldiers and was condemned by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
