Flightpath consultation extended
10.05.08
The consultation on proposals to reroute air traffic heading for Heathrow, Stansted, London City and Luton Airport has been extended. It was due to end on May 22 but has now been extended by a four weeks, amid claims that they were taken aback by the strength of feeling over the proposed changed in flight paths.
The proposals from the National Air Traffic Service (NATS) will see changes in the flight path from Luton Airport including funnelling 7,500 aircraft annually into a narrow path over Wheathampstead and the surrounding area. It has led to fears about the impact of noise and pollution on the quality of life for local residents and councillors in the village have been urging them to voice their concerns.
A spokesman for NATS said they had expected a ‘wide range of views’ while Jonathan Astill, head of airspace management, added: ‘We have listened to those people who have said there was not enough time for them to consider the details of these proposals, and therefore decided to extend the consultation period.’
If approved, changes to flight paths would be introduced next Spring. To respond to the consultation, visit www.consultation.nats.co.uk or send your views to TCN Consultation, NATS, Freepost NAT22750, Reading, RG1 4BR before May 22.
