Council to join Luton Airport flightpath fight
10.05.08
Luton Borough Council is set to lobby against proposals for new flight paths at Luton Airport, which will adversely affect people living in Luton and surrounding villages. If the changes are given the green light by the Civil Aviation Authority, an extra 5300 people living in Caddington, Slip End, Woodside and South Luton will be within a new 'noise contour', where aircraft noise is at 57 decibels - akin to a normal conversation.
In a meeting of the Council's scrutiny committee, councillors discussed how best to respond to the plans by National Air Traffic Systems (NATS). They agreed to send a strong argument against the proposals to NATS, as part of the consultation period that is running until May 22 (now extended by four weeks)..
Luton councillors will also meet members of NATS on May 16, with MP's, councillors from South Beds District Council and Beds County Council. To respond to the consultation, visit www.consultation.nats.co.uk or send your views to TCN Consultation, NATS, Freepost NAT22750, Reading, RG1 4BR before May 22.
