A man from Merseyside was arrested after allegedly trying to open a plane door on a flight packed with holidaymakers last month, the Echo reports. Police were waiting for 21-year-old Robert Montgomery when the plane touched down after a flight from Bulgaria to Luton Airport. Nobody is thought to have been injured during the incident but many passengers were reportedly left terrified.
Mr Montgomery, from Kilburn Avenue, Bebington, was travelling with Hungarian Airline Wizz Air on the three-and-a-half hour flight back to the UK. He was arrested by Bedfordshire police after the plane’s arrival at Luton airport. An investigation was carried out into reports he was drunk and attempted to force the plane door mid-flight on October 18. He is due to appear at Luton crown court on November 14 charged with being drunk aboard an aircraft.
A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire police told the newspaper: ‘A man was arrested at Luton airport for being drunk aboard an aircraft. He was later charged and remanded in custody.’ The airline refused to comment.
