Luton Airport introduce £1 drop off fee
08.04.09
Luton Airport is to introduce a £1 charge for dropping passengers off at the terminal at the end of this month. Motorists will have to pay the fee to spend up to ten minutes in a refurbished drop-off zone from April 29. The charge will be enforced at barriers at the exit of the zone.
The airport already charges £1 for the use of luggage trolleys and for clear plastic bags to take liquids through security. Passengers can also pay £3 to use a ‘priority lane’ to get through security quicker.
An Airport spokeswoman said drivers who did not wish to use the drop-off zone could leave passengers at the mid-term car park where there is a free shuttle bus to the terminal two minutes drive away.
Nick Horton, the airport's development manager, said: ‘Making a small charge reminds drivers of the 10-minute time allocation and keeps the traffic flowing. The new zone will have more space for people to unload as well as larger bays for passengers with reduced mobility.'
