easyJet passengers down 6.3%

easyJet carried 6.3% less passengers in March compared to a year ago. The airline carried 3.49 million passengers in the month as its load factor declined 2.8 percentage points to 84.7%, a move the company attributed to the timing of Easter (in March last year, but April this year). Rival budget airline Ryanair grew passengers by 5% but saw its load factor decline by 2 percentage points in the month to 77%.
In the 12 months to the end of March easyJet carried 44.2 million passengers, up 11.5% on a year earlier, with an average load factor of 84.9% (up 1.3 percentage points). Ryanair carried 56.8 million passengers with an average load factor of 81% in the same period.
