Men jailed over Luton Airport weapons haul
04.11.11
Two men who tried to smuggle a sword stick, knives, knuckle dusters and extendable batons into the UK via Luton Airport have been jailed. Daniel Oldacre, 23, and Daniel Osmond, 22, both from Coventry, were arrested by UK Border Agency officers at the airport after they arrived on a flight from Bulgaria on May 29.
A search of Oldacre’s suitcase revealed four knuckle dusters, a sword stick with a 15-inch blade and two extendable batons. Osmond was carrying five knuckle dusters, a butterfly knife and a flick knife hidden in a toiletries bag.
Both men claimed they had bought the items in Bulgaria as souvenirs and planned to use them in their martial arts training. They pleaded guilty to attempting to import prohibited and restricted weapons, and were both sentenced to 12 months in prison.
