A month after easyJet chairman Sir Colin Chandler stepped down, the airline announced yesterday that its finance director is to leave as well. This lead some journalists to suggest that the long-running boardroom dispute between the budget airline's founder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, and the airline's most senior management, under chief executive Andy Harrison, is hitting morale at the top.
It is not clear whether there was a connection between the two exits, as Sir Colin had been due to retire anyway, but the departure of finance director Jeff Carr seemed to come out of the blue for most industry watchers. easyJet said in a statement that it would ‘immediately’ start looking for someone to replace Mr Carr, who has been poached by transport operator FirstGroup after four years with the airline.
