London City Airport terminal development milestone
31.07.10
London City Airport hosted a 'topping-out' ceremony to mark the installation of the new first floor in the terminal building this week. Airport chief executive Richard Gooding was joined by Kevin Murphy of ExCeL London for the event, which is 'an important milestone' in the ongoing £7m terminal development.
The works commenced in the spring with the installation of piles, steel columns and beams ahead of the fitting of the new floor. A new staircase and six additional security search lanes will be put in place in the second and third phases of the project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2011.
Mr Gooding said: 'The first floor fitting marks an important milestone in the terminal renovation works. Increasing the handling capacity of the security search facility will maintain and uphold the airport's high level of customer service and we look forward to completion.'
