SAS cabin crew end strike
29.05.07
Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) said flight schedules should return to normal tomorrow after it struck a deal to end a strike that has disrupted its flights for four days. Around 1200 flights had been cancelled and 90,000 passengers affected by the strike among cabin crew over wages and working conditions.
More than 800 crew members started strike action on Friday after negotiators failed to reach an agreement over terms and conditions linked to SAS's offer of a 10.2 percent pay rise. SAS Sweden said in a statement today: 'The strike is finished,' after holding talks with union leaders overnight. It said a new employment agreement had been struck including a pay rise of 10.3 percent over three years.
SAS Sweden president Ander Ehrling said: 'I am pleased and relieved that we can take to the air again. We have reached agreement with the Salaried Employees' Union regarding a new collective agreement and will focus all of our energy on restarting operations.'
SAS Sweden serves 37 destinations in Europe, including a regular shuttle service between Stockholm and London City Airport, and the parent group SAS is the fourth largest airline in Europe in terms of numbers of passengers.
