OFT clears Air France-KLM / VLM merger
25.10.08
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has cleared Air France-KLM’s acquisition of VLM, after concerns over competition on the London City Airport to Amsterdam route – operated by both VLM and Air France subsidiary CityJet - were dealt with.
The deal has been approved after Air France-KLM agreed to make several peak slots used by KLM at the Docklands airport available to Eastern Airways so it could launch its own services on the route. The OFT believed that otherwise the incumbents (CityJet and VLM) could have cut flights between the two airports in order to drive up air fares.
Eastern Airways plan to launch eight daily services on the route from January 2009, with four flights at peak times.
