London City Airport closed over suspect package and cleaning fumes
24.10.08
Flights were grounded at London City Airport due to a suspect package found in the toilets and accompanying fumes - which turned out to be from cleaning liquid.
The package was discovered in a ladies toilet inside the terminal at around 14:30. Around 2000 passengers and staff were evacuated from the main building and DLR trains were not stopping at the airport. But just after 16:30 the airport reopened when firefighters - who had been called to check for a potentially hazardous substance - gave the all-clear.
