Airbus A318 gets EU clearance to operate at London City Airport
21.06.07
Airbus has announced that its A318 aircraft will be able to land at London City Airport following approval by EU regulators to undertake steep approaches to airports. The certification of the aircraft, fitted with United Technologies Corp unit Pratt & Whitney PW 6000 engines, was awarded by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), means it satisfies the approach requirements at the airport in London's Docklands.
Airbus said the A318 offers more range than existing jets serving London City. Steep approach certification from the EASA for the A318 fitted with CFM 56 engines is expected later this year.
In a separate announcement Embraer said that ERJ 135 business (private) jet derivative, the Legacy 600, has certified for a 5.5 degree steep approach, and can also operate into London City. Earlier this week Bombardier announced that its 605 executive jet had also been licensed to fly into London City.
