Flights resume at London City airport
21.02.07
The runway at London City Airport was partially reopened yesterday evening after a plane's burst tyre led to its closure for most of the day. The airport eventually reopened at 17:05, although some later flights were still cancelled. The airport hopes to return to normal operations today.
An Air France 146 jet from Paris got into difficulties when it touched down on the runway at 08:35 yesterday. The plane was moving more quickly than normal as it landed and hit the ground hard, according to a Bloomberg reporter who was aboard. It came to rest at the eastern end of the runway and meant that the runway - and therefore the airport - was closed for most of the day. Incoming planes were cancelled or diverted to other airports, whilst outgoing flights were cancelled.
An inquiry has been launched into the incident.
