VLM introduces first jet at London City Airport

VLM Airlines introduced its first jet aircraft on its London City Airport - Rotterdam route earlier this week. Named the 'Spirit of Rotterdam', the BAe 146-300 jet can seat up to 92 passengers and will join the existing VLM fleet of 19 Fokker 50s.
Passengers flying on the route in the new jet can enjoy leather seats with a seat pitch of 31 inches - more than the typical airline average of 28 to 29 inches, an airline spokesman said. The in-flight service will remain unchanged, with passengers offered complimentary snacks and drinks.
VLM managing director Johan Vanneste said: 'We are delighted to be introducing the BAe 146 jet to our fleet. This larger, faster aircraft is essential to meet growing demand from business travellers using our London City to Rotterdam service.'
Mr Vanneste said that, should the jet prove successful, VLM will introduce BAe 146s on six more of its existing routes out of London City Airport. He added that the trial may also lead to the airline offering new routes. 'A further 20 destinations, all over 500 kilometres from London City, are also being evaluated,' he said.
