London City Airport marks 'coming of age'
18.01.08
London City Airport has marked 21 years of operations - its coming of age. Richard Gooding, the docklands airport's chief executive, described the hub as a 'special part of East London'.
He said that the airport: ' boasts 2.8 million passengers, 1600 staff, 80,000 air movements and more destinations every year. But like any 21-year-old, the airport has its eyes set firmly on the future. That will mean more air movements, 120,000 to be exact.'
The airport has lodged a planning application with Newham Council to increase its air movements in order to facilitate this growth up to 2010. A decision is expected later this year.
