London City Airport prepares for annual show
16.06.08
The London City Airport air show is set to 'reach new heights' this summer. The capital's only air show takes off on July 5 at the action-packed airport Fun Day - a very popular event. This year's air show includes acrobatic aircraft never before seen at the event plus old favourites.
New additions include the Air Atlantique DC-6, Dukes of Cassutt - Cassutts Racers and Yak 3. It will also see the return of the Pitts Special, Grace Spitfire, Cap 232, Swift glider display and Dennis Kenyon in a Schweizer 300c helicopter display.
The Pitts Special is a light weight aircraft that represents the latest design of this legendary family of aerobatic aircraft. It has won more aerobatic contests than any other aircraft type and the performance at the Fun Day is expected to be one to remember.
A regular at the air show is the Grace Spitfire, described as being as impressive up close as it is flying high in the skies. The Cap 232 will amaze the crowds with its fast flips, twists and summersaults.
The Swift Glider display is towed into the air with a specialised tow plane and defies gravity using skill and accuracy. It leaves behind graceful patterns of coloured smoke in its tracks. A Schweizer 300c helicopter will be piloted by Dennis Kenyon as he manoeuvres the helicopter in a sequence of astonishing stunts just meters from the ground.
The 12th annual Fun Day will also feature Zippos Circus, a tethered hot air balloon, the chance to meet former EastEnders star Shane Richie, the Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders, an inflatable assault course and much more.
Admission to the Fun Day including the air show is free. The doors open at 14:30, with the air show beginning at 15:15. For more details visit www.funday2008.com.
