London City Airport boost for CityJet

CityJet is boosting capacity on some of its best-performing routes from London City Airport following a surge in bookings in the last quarter of 2009. The Dublin based subsidiary of the Air France KLM Group will increase frequencies to Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh and Paris (Orly) taking its daily flight tally from the Docklands hub to 60 for the remainder of the winter season.
CityJet carried two million passengers last year, with 250,000 flying on its strongest route - London City to Amsterdam. 149,500 passengers travelled to Dublin, 109,000 passengers travelled to Rotterdam and 72,000 travelled to Antwerp.
Demand for flights to Antwerp and Luxemburg increased by 10% in December while Edinburgh and Dundee also saw a last-minute surge, boosting overall passenger figures on Scottish routes by 23% compared to the previous year.
CityJet chief executive Geoffrey O’Byrne White said: ‘This is a remarkable turn around considering figures taken from the first 9 months of 2009 when the full force of the economic downturn hit the business travel industry. CityJet is set to go from strength to strength in 2010 following the successful launch of its Milan Linate route, which is already showing a strong uptake.'
