London City Airport add self service check-in
12.04.08
London City Airport is introducing self-service check-in kiosks as part of a revamp designed to 'improve the customer experience'. Work due to be completed in May will see 12 common use self-service (CUSS) kiosks available for passengers to check themselves in for flights with airlines including VLM, KLM and Swiss.
In addition the departure lounge is being reconfigured to incorporate 250 additional seats, the airports retail offering will be improved with the addition of WH Smith and Nuance, and a new lounge featuring high-speed internet points and live sports screens will open. Complimentary wireless internet access will be available for all passengers and a new bar is also due to open at the end of May.
The enhancements are timed to coincide with the planned opening of new parking stands at London City to handle up to four additional aircraft, supplementing 14 existing stands. Further gate lounges will also be added with access directly from the airport’s departure lounge.
The £30 million project, the largest since the airport opened 21 years ago, was started last summer to help with increased numbers of flights, including new services by British Airways, Lufthansa, SAS and Austrian Airlines.
