Extra security lanes at London City Airport to cope with new measures
12.02.10
London City Airport will open extra security lanes to deal with increased queues caused by heightened security measures. Work has already begun on two new lanes - which will raise the total to six - and they will be operational by the end of February.
The airport has recently started to advise passengers to allow 45 minutes to go through security. It follows the Department for Transport bringing in heightened security checks across the UK's airports.
London City Airport's chief executive Richard Gooding said: ‘We recognise passengers are enduring unacceptably long queues at the security checking lanes. We are committed to processing passengers as quickly as possible. We expect the queues to significantly reduce with the new lanes and for normal service to resume. In the meantime, extra staff have been brought in to ease waiting times.'
