Fog closes London City Airport
12.02.08
London City Airport was forced to suspend flights for much of yesterday morning due to fog. A spokeswoman for the Docklands hub told the Times that, as the airport has a short runway, the margin for error is 'limited' due to the steep takeoffs and landings that are required there. It therefore decided to suspend flights
The timing is unfortunate: Monday mornings is one of the busiest times for the airport, which is popular with business travellers because it has the shortest check-in time of London's airport, at ten minutes.
The newspaper reports that the decision to restrict flights was taken at 06:30, and that they did not resume until after 11:30. The airport's website was still warning passengers of the disruption in the early afternoon.
