CityJet still considering Shannon - London City Airport route
03.12.07
The Shannon Airport Authority is still in talks with CityJet about starting a new service between Shannon and London City Airport early next year, according to Irish press reports. If it comes off, the new service would go some way to helping to replace the Aer Lingus Shannon - Heathrow route, which will end on January 14.
A spokesman for CityJet confirmed that talks between the airline and the airport were ongoing, but said any final decision would be made by CityJet's parent company, Air France. A CityJet service from Shannon to Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris is also being considered.
He said: ''We have identified a gap in the market, but we need to know if there is a market for us in that gap. Market research is being conducted and we are looking at the availability of aircraft. Then there is the question of the number of flights that could be provided.'
'CityJet is not a low-cost airline and it is not Aer Lingus. It is a quality business service. We are looking at the facts and figures of the Shannon-to-London route, and looking at the connectivity issue. They are all part of the mix - all options are on the table, but no final decision has been made yet.'
