Consultant criticises Lydd Airport information
04.12.07
Aviation consultant Malcolm Spaven of Spaven Consulting has challenged some of the key information provided by Lydd Airport (LOndon Ashford) in its Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) for the current planning applications which cover a runway extension and a new terminal, according to a statement by the anti-expansion action group.
In his report, which is part of Lydd Airport Action Group's (LAAG) response to the Supplementary Environmental Information, Mr Spaven argues that the assumed flight paths, used as the basis for the noise assessments in support of the two planning applications, are incorrect in almost every respect.
He also says that the airport is claiming regular commercial service use of the airport by aircraft types such as the BAe-146, Dash 8, ATR42-500 and Saab 340/SF340B, which have rarely used the airport.
Mr Spaven says that the airport's incorrect flight paths combined with the inflated 'current conditions' invalidate the noise contour maps presented in the supplementary environmental information and the analysis of the impact of aircraft noise on bird species of conservation interest. It also casts doubt on the validity of the air quality analysis and that of the predicted impacts of bird hazard control programmes on bird species of conservation interest.
LAAG say that this means the quality of the information used in the Appropriate Assessment - an assessment required under the Habitats Directive for Special Protection Areas (SPAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) - based on the above information, is inadequate.
