29.06.08
Thousands of visitors were at Liverpool Airport this weekend for a series of events marking its 75th anniversary. The airport was officially opened on 1 July 1933 by the Rt Hon The Marquis of Londonderry KG, Secretary of State for air.
Vintage aircraft flew into the airport as part of the celebrations organised by the Friends of Liverpool Airport (FoLA) and The Jetstream Club. Today's events focused on the site of the landmark Grade II listed former terminal building. The old Art Deco terminal is now the Liverpool Marriott Hotel South.
Visitors to the celebrations saw the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with a Spitfire, Hurricane and DC3 Dakota aircraft. There was also a history of Liverpool airport photographic and aviation art exhibition, as well as several lectures and films.
