Fewer planes but more passengers at Liverpool Airport

Airlines are getting better at filling seats on flights from Liverpool Airport, according to the Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) latest figures. They show that the number of flights in and out of the airport were down 6.5% in the first six months of 2007 compared with 2006, but the number of passengers over the same period were up 10.5%.
The reduction in flights has been blamed mainly on consolidation within the package holiday business, which has led to fewer charter flights. The link to London City Airport, which was operating several times a day last October, also stopped during the summer. However, those flights operating from the airport are flying have been fuller, meaning that overall passengers are ahead.
Almost 459,000 passengers used Liverpool Airport last month, giving the airport an total so far this year of 5,436,314. It is expected to break through the 6m visitors mark for the first time this year.
