Ryanair has reclaimed its position as the biggest operator at Liverpool Airport by passenger numbers from easyJet, the Post reports. Latest passenger statistics from the airport show during the first quarter easyjet maintained its lead with a 14.1% increase in passenger numbers, compared with 9.1% for Ryanair. However, the devastating effects of the Icelandic ash cloud became apparent when easyJet recorded a reversal in passenger numbers of 12.9% for the second quarter, whereas Ryanair still managed to achieve a 4% improvement.
From then on, Ryanair continued to soar, with a 20.4% increase in passenger numbers through Liverpool in the third quarter, compared with a 4.5% decline for easyJet. And, in August, Ryanair managed to record the highest passenger numbers carried by an airline in the airport’s history, with 267,413 customers, compared with 249,518 on easyJet flights. So far this year, Ryanair has carried a total of 2,084,625 passengers at Liverpool, compared with easyJet’s total of 1,954,839.
