Liverpool Airport baggage handlers strike
23.11.11
Ground staff at Liverpool Airport staged a two-hour strike this morning in a row over compulsory redundancies.
The Servisair workers walked out from 05:00 until 07:00 and are due to hold another two-hour stoppage starting at 19:15.
The GMB union said the action is in protest at plans for 47 compulsory redundancies at Servisair, which deals with airlines including Ryanair, Flybe and Wizz Air at the airport. The company has promised there will be no disruption to flights.
A further two-hour strike is also planned for Sunday at 16:00 followed by two more strikes on Monday (November 28). The GMB union said the pattern of strike action will be repeated in the weeks from November 30, and there will be a continuous ban on overtime.
