VLM profits up 114%; plans to keep Liverpool Airport - London City route
19.04.07
Regional full service airline VLM announced a 114% increase in pretax profits yesterday and said it was committed to continuing its Liverpool Airport - London City route. The airline cut the frequency of the route from three trips to two in February, but said that passenger numbers have now stabilised, giving it more confidence that the route will continue.
VLM made a pretax profit of £4.4m for the year ending December 31, 2006, compared to £2.0m in 2005. Turnover for the same period grew 12.5% percent to £99.6m. The airline carried 681,751 passengers in 2006, a 9% increase over 2005. It is forecasting to carry over 900,000 passengers in 2007.
Johan Venneste, managing director of VLM Airlines, said: 'We remain committed to offering a fast and convenient service between Liverpool and London City. Since we reduced services earlier this year to meet levels of consumer demand, passenger numbers have stabilised and we look forward to serving both business and leisure travellers from around the Liverpool area in the future.'
