Liverpool – IOM cargo flight axed – after 9 days
11.10.08
A scheduled daily air cargo service between the Isle of Man and Liverpool Airport has ended before it really got off the ground. Janes Aviation, based at Southend Airport, only started air freight morning arrival and evening departure flights between the Isle of Man and Liverpool on September 29. But nine days on and the service was suspended.
Andy Janes, Managing Director founder of the airline, explained the service was launched with the best of intentions but that the commercial interest previously shown in using the service did not actually materialise, even though both DHL and FCX had used the service. Without further businesses also committing to using the service it meant it was not viable, he said.
Mr Janes said: 'Having studied the official statistics for airfreight previously carried on this route until May 2006 and having had such a positive interest from former users we were delighted to work with both Isle of Man and Liverpool airports to re-introduce this service.'
'Regrettably, it is now clear that the conversion of that interest into genuine commitment is not sufficient to support the size of aircraft that we operate and there is no indication that that would change any time soon. This may be partly due to the current economic uncertainty so we will be happy to look at this again in the future. For these reasons Janes Aviation has decided to suspend the Liverpool - Isle of Man freight service.'
