AOA – Air Passenger Duty should be truly ‘green’
08.03.08
Commenting on the report published on March 5 by the Environmental Audit Committee calling for further reform of Air Passenger Duty, Chairman of the Airport Operators Association (and CEO of Liverpool Airport) Neil Pakey said: ‘Ensuring that aviation covers its environmental costs is a top priority for the industry. Air Passenger Duty as it stands needs reform, but the Government must ensure it is truly green.'
‘We believe that environmental taxes should be as targeted as possible – rewarding low-emitters and punishing high-emitters. The industry has made huge strides in ensuring that carbon emissions are kept to a minimum, and we urge the Treasury to make sure that APD is emissions-based to further encourage this.’
