Record passengers at Liverpool Airport
06.01.08
Passenger numbers increased by 500,000 at Liverpool Airport over 2007, with a record 5.5 million travellers passing through its terminal last year, up 11% on 2006. New routes and the city's raised profile ahead of culture year were given as the main reasons for the increase
Over the past 12 months, a number of new flight destinations have been added, meaning passengers can now fly to more than 60 European destinations from the airport, including Budapest, Tenerife and Salzburg.
The growth in European destinations is largely due to rapid expansion by the airport's two biggest route operators, Ryanair and easyJet, both of which had announced additional routes in the last year. A third budget operator, Wizz Air, which specialises in Eastern European routes, is also growing rapidly at the airport.
