Liverpool Airport enjoys record month
05.09.11
Liverpool Airport broke all previous passenger records last month, with over 580,000 having passed through the terminal, making August the busiest month in the airport’s 78 year history. The previous record was just over 575,000 set in August 2007, before the recession.
This year low cost airlines easyJet and Ryanair have been operating to more summer sun destinations than ever, with a number of new resorts featured for the first time. And holidaymakers from across the North West have been taking advantage of the many value for money flights available with the added convenience of flying from a local airport.
Over 81,000 passengers travelled through the airport on 568 flights over the Bank Holiday weekend, surpassing the airport’s predictions. During a two hour peak early on Bank Holiday Monday, over 2,200 passengers passed through the new airport security area and into the departure lounge.
Craig Richmond, CEO of Peel Airports commented: ‘Even we have been surprised by the levels of growth seen in passenger numbers choosing to fly off during the summer months from Liverpool. Two weeks in the sun clearly remains very important for families in particular throughout the North West, despite the recession.'
'This is a great achievement and I know that staff here will be proud of this latest milestone for Liverpool Airport. It is because of their hard work that despite more passengers having passed through our doors, standards of service have continued to improve too’.To book liverpool airport hotels or liverpool airport parking at the lowest price, click on these links to two great liverpool airport parking and liverpool airport hotels price comparison pages.
