Thousands hit fog delays at Liverpool Airport
05.02.07
Thousands of passengers were stranded at Liverpool Airport over the weekend as around 60 flights were cancelled due to heavy fog. The bad weather hit flights on Saturday and Sunday, and meant that some travellers stayed overnight at the airport.
On Saturday, all 40 flights were cancelled from 10:00 onwards as thick fog descended suddenly. Another 18-20 departures were cancelled yesterday morning, with passengers still facing an average two to three hour delay yesterday afternoon as flights slowly returned to normal.
The airport's business services manager, Robin Tudor, said: 'After the fog on Saturday, there was a lot of aircraft that should have come back to Liverpool, in places they shouldn't have been. There was also ongoing fog during the first wave of Sunday departures. A lot of passengers were still caught up in the backlog, but we are slowly getting back to normal.'
