Flyglobespan plan new routes from Liverpool Airport as New York route ends
01.11.07
Budget airline Flyglobespan is planning to launch new routes out for Liverpool Airport, the Daily Post has reported. However, despite insisting the New York service will resume in the spring, no timetable has yet been announced, even though other transatlantic routes operated by the Scottish airline have gone on sale.
When Flyglobespan launched the route in May it had planned to operate the service all year round, but ditched the plans when tickets sales failed to meet expectations. Civil Aviation Authority figures suggest as few as 20 people per flight were using the route in either direction.
The final Liverpool to New York flight for the winter took off yesterday, with the airline has insisting it will relaunch the service next spring. However, with an average of just 20 passengers per flight, we very much doubt it.
The airline has said that it intends to begin other new services from Liverpool Airport. It has tried and failed to establish routes to Tenerife and Prague, and this year also operated a Toronto route. As it has already announced most of its new routes from other airports - and is selling the flights - we would be surprised if this happens too. Especially as it has closed its base at the airport.
