Fast track security fee and 50p plastic bags at Leeds Bradford Airport?
30.01.08
A reader has written to tell us about a couple of new passenger charging initiatives planned at Leeds Bradford Airport. According to our reader, the airport is taking Liverpool's lead and introducing a Fast Track security clearance facility. Prices are still to be announced, but at Liverpool the fee is £2 per passenger, with no reduction for children or infants.
The airport has yet to receive permission to allow passengers to carry more than one bag, although this is planned for all UK airports from May. Perhaps this is Leeds Bradford's way of paying for the extra machines needed.
In addition, the airport has also followed the lead of Luton and Norwich airports by introduced a plastic bag dispenser 'costing an outrageous 50p for two bags' (even though you can only use one bag per person). Our reader tells us that staff are so outraged by the charge (which is lower than at the other airports) that some have been bringing their own plastic bags from home to give to passengers!
