Climate protesters stage protest at offices of Leeds Bradford Airport owners
21.08.07
Just before 09:00 yesterday morning protesters entered the premises of Bridgepoint Capital, the new owners of Leeds Bradford Airport, in Warwick Street, just around the corner from London's Piccadilly Circus. Three banners were unfurled in the windows, the outside of which were covered with flyers explaining the occupation.
After a short scuffle with security Bridgepoint director James Murray agreed to come to the reception to hear the protesters demands. They made it clear that the protest was the start of a long and sustainable campaign against the airport.
Workers arriving for the day were offered Yorkshire puddings whist the climate campaigners explained the science of climate change and reasoning why Leeds Bradford Airport - and all other UK airports - should not be expanded.
Finally a declaration from the people of Yorkshire was read out, a souvenir snap was taken and protesters peacefully left the building. A spokesman added: 'To his credit, director Murray took his pudding upstairs with him!'
