Leeds Bradford Airport bus link to be cut back
19.12.07
The shuttle bus service that operates between York and Leeds Bradford Airport has been cut back, just nine months after it was launched. Operator First York has announced it is reducing the number of services on the route, insisting the scheme is a success, even though most buses have been almost empty.
The bus company has announced it is withdrawing some of the early morning and late night buses over the winter, and has also reduced the daytime frequency from once an hour to once every 75 minutes. The changes mean that number of buses has been cut from 17-a-day, seven-days-a-week, to 12 Mondays to Fridays; 11 on Saturdays and 10 on Sundays.
The route is also being revised to offer facilities for passengers in Knaresborough. Although more stops would be observed, the running time will only be increased by five minutes.
Earlier this year, it was reported the buses were averaging just four passengers each, and the company has admitted that passengers have fallen recently. First spokesman Duncan McGraw said the changes 'reflect winter timetables and an attempt to drum up more patronage.' How a less frequent, less convenient service will achieve this, we are not sure.
