Turkish air stewardess arrested at Leeds Bradford over drink fears
09.10.09
Passengers flying from Leeds Bradford Airport to Turkey faced a number of delays on Wednesday, including police arresting a 21-year-old air stewardess on suspicion of working while drunk.
The Onur Air flight to Dalaman had been due to set off on Tuesday night but was diverted to Manchester, and then grounded by ‘heavy fog’. It was then rescheduled for take off at 01:00 Wednesday, but was delayed again because the crew needed more sleep to fly safely under aviation regulations.
Then when the Turkish airline staff returned for the plane at about 06:30, a member of airport staff reported that they smelled alcohol on one of the members of the air crew, and West Yorkshire police were called in.
The plane was grounded while police questioned the woman. However, she was found to have no alcohol in her breath and was released without charge. The flight eventually set off at 08:45, more than 12 hours late.
