Freight down 70% at Kent Airport

23.11.08

Kent International Airport 1,235 tonnes of freight in October, down 70% on the prior year total due to the absence of MK Airlines regular flights. However, EgyptAir recorded a year-on-year rise of 35% with growth in demand for export loads and November has started more strongly, with a number of additional seasonal produce flights.

During October the airport handled five military troop flights. Four of these were recovery flights for troops returning from Afghanistan and the fifth was for the deployment of troops to the same arena. These flights provided the airport with the opportunity to welcome Air Berlin, Monarch Airlines, Air Slovakia, Air Caraibes and Jet2 for the first time.

Newmarket Holidays is building on the success of the 2008 summer programme by adding an additional flight to Pula and a new destination – Innsbruck – for 2009.
