Plans for flights between Kent Airport and US scrapped
01.03.07
Plans for non-stop flights between Kent Airport (Manston) and Norfolk, Virginia this summer have been scrapped. The flights were to be operated by Cosmos, but seat sales reported to be as low as 10% of those available has lead to the holiday company scrapping the planned route.
The weekly flights were part of a celebration of the centenary of links between Kent and Virginia. Kent is where Pocahontas is buried and where a number of Jamestown settlers were born. It is also the place from where three ships set sail for Jamestown in 1607.
The flights were to start in May and operate through to October. However, only 600 tickets had been sold in the UK, with just 200 sold in the US. Kent County Council decided to pull the plug on the service rather than commit to covering losses.
All monies will be refunded to travellers who have booked the service or alternative flights will be offered.
