£17m runway resurfacing for Jersey Airport
28.06.08
The runway at Jersey Airport is to be resurfaced at a cost of £17m, the BBC reports. The work was needed to accommodate bigger planes and improve safety.
The work will be carried out at night between September and next April, and project managers hope to address disruption concerns of those living nearby. Special measures will be carried out to control noise levels, including shutting off warning horns on lorries that are reversing.
The work will affect the arrival of British newspapers and mail in the island, as the airport's opening time will be moved from 05:30 to 06:00 while the work is carried out. Airport Minister Alan Maclean told the BBC that the work was necessary to help ensure the island did not lose business or tourism as a result of outdated facilities.
