Manx2 IOM airport emergency
30.07.08
Emergency procedures were launched at Isle of Man Airport yesterday after a plane burst a tyre on landing. The Manx2 service, from Gloucester, landed safely at Ronaldsway and the pilot taxied off the main runway. No-one on board the flight was hurt and the emergency response was standard procedure, Airport Director Ann Reynolds said.
Passengers were moved to the main airport terminal by bus after the aircraft was stopped on the cross runway. Emergency crews checked the Dornier 228 aircraft over before it was towed away, causing slight delays.
A spokesman for the Department of Home Affairs said: 'The airport firefighters ensured the security of the passengers and aircraft. Two appliances from Castletown and two from Port Erin were also dispatched to the airport to assist.'
According to the Isle of Man Airport website two planes were diverted, including the Aer Arann from Dublin, due to arrive at 10:00, which was diverted back to Dublin, and the Flybe flight from Gatwick, due to land at 10.20, which was diverted to Liverpool.
