Job loss threat at IOM airport

Security company G4S is warning there may be job losses at Isle of Man Airport following government's decision to award the aviation security contract to another firm.
The contract for providing aviation security at the airport is to change hands following a competitive tender process. The Resource Group will take over from G4S, which has provided the security screening service for staff, passengers and baggage at at IOM Airport for more than 30 years.
A spokesman for G4S said: 'We are extremely disappointed not to have been selected for the security contract at Isle of Man Airport, particularly as the contract has been awarded to an off-Island company. The loss of this contract will affect 28 employees currently engaged at the airport. It is our intention to offer internal re-location to other contracts for as many staff as possible, but inevitably with a contract of this size, there may be redundancies.'
'We have been advised that the incoming contractor may wish to offer employment to some of our staff and we will assist with this process if it is in the best interests of our employees, many of whom have worked with us for a considerable number of years.'
'We have given an assurance to offer whatever assistance we can to the airport for the smooth transition to the new contractor at the end of September.'
Ireland based company Resource will now provide security screeing as part of a five-year contract starting on October 1. The Group employs 15,000 staff and is the largest support services company in Ireland, with a turnover of over £150 million. It provides security screening and support services to Belfast City Airport.
