Inverness Airport arrest spoils new plane debut

The launch of a new jet plane by no frills airline Flybe was marred on the first day by delays after a passenger had to be arrested for being drunk and causing a disturbance onboard. The foreign fisherman was arrested by police officers on Monday afternoon when the Gatwick flight arrived at Inverness Airport.
The mid-air incident resulted in the aircraft being put in a holding pattern for 20 minutes over Inverness before it was cleared to land at the airport, where officers were waiting. A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said the disturbance had been reported by staff on board the flight.
The incident resulted in delays for passengers travelling on the return flight to Gatwick and later flights between Gatwick and Inverness, hours after the airline celebrated the launch of its new summer flight schedule and the arrival of its new environmentally sensitive jet with Brazilian dancers and music at Inverness airport. The Embraer 195 jet aircraft, made in Brazil, is being used on routes between Inverness and Gatwick.
The 38-year-old passenger, Raimonds Galins, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday – his birthday – facing 3 charges, including being drunk on board the aircraft and causing a breach of the peace. He admitted all 3 charges and was fined £1000.
