Humberside Airport hit by airline failure
12.09.08
Holidaymakers departing from Humberside Airport could be affected by the collapse of an airline after Futura cancelled flights and launched insolvency proceedings in Palma on Monday, blaming high fuel costs.
The Spanish airline is used by tour operators Thomas Cook and Thomson for flights from Humberside Airport. A statement issued by Futura said: ‘The difficulties being experienced by the sector, but above all the excessive and speculative increase of fuel in the last few months, have put Futura in a very difficult situation from the financial point of view, in such a way that not presenting this request for insolvency proceedings would make complying with its payment obligations with the suppliers impossible.’
