Health and safety row hits passengers at Heathrow terminal
25.09.11
A row over health and safety regulations is hitting travellers arriving at Heathrow T1, forcing parents to carry infants and toddlers from arrival gates to the baggage hall, a walk that can be more than half a mile. Baggage handling company Menzies Aviation, who carry out ground handling for the Lufthansa Group including BMI, are refusing to take buggies and strollers at the aircraft gates.
The company says its employees might be injured while bringing buggies and strollers from the plane to the gate because of the terminal's poor infrastructure. However, other baggage handlers operating at Heathrow Terminal 1 do provide this service.
