Two years before decision on high speed rail link to Heathrow
24.11.11
A decision on a high-speed rail link to Heathrow Airport will not be finalised for another two years, the Uxbridge Gazette reports that MP John McDonnell was told this week. The Government will not decide how to link the airport with the main route for High Speed Two (HS2) between London and Birmingham until at least 2014.
Mr McDonnell was one of about 20 MPs who met with the new Transport Secretary Justine Greening on Monday, in a last-ditch bid to dissuade her from pursuing the £32 billion high speed rail project. He told the newspaper afterwards: ‘They said there would be no formal consultation until 2014. We were originally told December this year. It is staggering.’
